Township Brew!!!

We had a chat with Vusi Radebe, whom with Machode Msiza and Sfiso Nhlapo, all born in Tsakane in the East Rand are the founders of Fourty Four. Vusi studied and completed his National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from VUT.

"We started with our company Township Brew in 2019 and our first beer is Fourty Four Premium lager. We worked on the idea from the start of 2019 and started to implement it 6 months later. We launched FourtyFour Premium lager in February 2020. In SA there are few beers that can be housed in a clear bottle, the challenge around that is that any other beer will react and "skunk". Our beer doesn't, we use imported Mexican Hops, and that makes us different from the rest.

Think of imported beers like Sol and Corona, that's the space we want to see ourselves in. Our beer light, crisp and has a distinctive taste. It definitely has its own character, and you will feel our flavor being different to any other beer. FourtyFour also has 4.4 Vol on alcohol, overall its a lifestyle beer. Our challenge was really getting Mexican hops and making sure we create a quality product that will be up the with the best. Having a team that is highly qualified and passionate helped us a lot. We also spent a lot of time in the image of our beer because we wanted it to resonate with people of SA. We still working on it even today.

The love that we have received has been our constant highlight, Since we came out in February we

have seen our growth and we very humbled about it. We have been to a couple of pubs, restaurants and seeing our beer being sold like any other beer has been fulfilling. You can also find our beer at Wing Republic and our launch there was also a special moment. We hoping other restaurants will try us out. Our brand will now also be in Maboneng, at the artisan weekly flair pity covid19 had to delay us on that. Post covid there is a lot that is going to happen and we very excited about that.

You can find our beer at Jamzars Happy Valley bottle store, and at our local pubs in Tsakane. By the 2nd week of June you will also be able to find our beer on Takealot and on our website. The lockdown really did hit us, but our passion is just too much to back down. We have had to flush our beer from tanks, which was ready to be bottled, that was very painful, but we had to abide, lives are more important and we all need to play our part. So since lockdown we have not been able to sell and get our brand out there. We have strongly relied on social media to keep our dream alive. we have also been working on online platforms so we can get FourtyFour at your doorstep. I strongly believe that in crisis there is always an opportunity. Our comeback game and plan is in tact and we cant wait to get out there.
