Ubomi Foundation SA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Shane Brown as its Advisor: Disaster Management.

GQEBERHA, EASTERN CAPE - Mr Brown brings nearly 40 years of public-sector experience in disaster management and municipal administration. He joined the Port Elizabeth Municipality in 1984 and was appointed Head: Disaster Management for Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in 2003, a position he held until his retirement in October 2023.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr Brown played a key role in establishing the Nelson Mandela Bay Disaster Management Centre, developing the municipality’s first Disaster Management Plan, coordinating major safety and security operations, and contributing to national early-warning systems.
He also coordinated the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s COVID-19 response from March 2020 to December 2021, including the establishment of COVID-19 hospital facilities at the NMBM Stadium and VW facility.
Mr Brown holds a degree in Public Administration and Sociology and has extensive specialised training in disaster management. He has served on various disaster-management advisory structures, including DMISA and municipal and provincial Disaster Management Advisory Forums, and served as Chairman of the Eastern Cape Emergency Services Coordinating Committee.
