At The Konvenient Magazine, we’ve always believed that innovation only matters when it reaches people, when it makes life easier, smoother, and more inclusive. Great ideas lose their power when they remain niche, misunderstood, or inaccessible. And in a world moving as fast as ours, no one should be left behind when solutions already exist to make everyday living better.

That belief is what drives us to continually spotlight innovations that quietly and sometimes boldly, reshape how we live, work, and move through the world.

So, when we bumped into VezoPay’s smart payment ring, we knew this is a story worth retelling.

Originally launched in 2024 and recently partnered with FNB, VezoPay didn’t arrive with loud fanfare or flashy gimmicks. Instead, it arrived with intention. A simple, elegant solution to a problem we’ve all learned to tolerate, the friction of paying. Wallets forgotten. Phones dead. Smart devices that promise convenience but demand constant attention.

We wanted to understand not just the product, but the thinking behind it. So, we went straight to the source.

VezoPay was founded by Jake Pinkus and later joined by Lawrence Baker, two entrepreneurs united by a shared belief that payments should disappear into daily life, not interrupt it.

The idea, Jake tells us, didn’t start in a boardroom. It started on the road. “I was travelling through Asia, constantly moving between wet and active environments - boats, pools, beach restaurants, bars,” he explains. “Traditional payment methods felt frustrating and limiting. Wallets had to be carried, phones needed charging, and existing wearables felt bulky or impractical.”

In those moments, hands wet, phone battery low, wallet nowhere convenient, a simple question formed - why is paying still this hard? “I wanted a simpler, more freeing way to pay, something that could go anywhere with me, without needing attention or maintenance.”

That seed became VezoPay. And when Jake shared the concept with Lawrence, the alignment was immediate.

What followed was the start of a partnership between two entrepreneurs united by a passion for innovative technology, consumer products, and fintech.

At its core, VezoPay was built on one powerful belief - payments should be effortless, secure, and seamlessly fit into everyday life.

VezoPay’s flagship product, a smart payment ring stands apart not because it’s louder than existing solutions, but because it’s quieter.

Unlike cards that get lost, phones that need charging, or smartwatches that demand daily maintenance, the VezoPay ring is battery-free, waterproof, and ultra-durable.

“Our devices are designed to be always on, always with you,” the team explains.

But functionality alone wasn’t enough. “What truly differentiates us is the balance between form and function. Our rings look like premium lifestyle accessories, not tech gadgets, yet they deliver bank-grade security and the same acceptance footprint as contactless cards.”

And then there’s the part that makes you pause, the ring does more than just pay. “They double as shareable digital business cards, emergency medical IDs, shopping cards, and more, with additional features rolling out over the coming months.”

In short, as the team jokes, you’ll almost never need to reach for your phone or wallet again…unless you’re doom-scrolling.

For those unfamiliar with NFC technology, VezoPay’s experience feels almost magical, but it’s grounded in robust, proven systems.

When a user taps their ring on a payment terminal, the terminal emits magnetic waves that power the ring instantly. The ring then transmits a tokenized credential, not an actual card number. “The terminal processes the transaction via the bank’s existing contactless payment rails, the bank authorizes it, and payment is completed, all in under a second.”

“We use tokenization. Customers download our app, securely provision a token from Visa or Mastercard, and that token is transferred to the ring. The actual card details are never stored on the device.”

It’s seamless. And more importantly, it’s safer than what most of us are used to.

In fintech, trust is everything and VezoPay takes that responsibility seriously. “Security is foundational to VezoPay. Our devices never store sensitive card details.” If a ring is lost, it can be locked instantly, via the app, a web browser, or even through an Emergency PIN.

“Even if your phone and ring are stolen together, you can secure your wearable from any device with internet access.” Because the ring uses a token, users don’t need to cancel their physical cards or disrupt existing payments. They simply deactivate the token and generate a new one.

Add to that discreet design, PIN verification thresholds, and VezoPay’s intentional Knock-to-Pay gesture, requiring a deliberate fist held steady and you begin to see how deeply thought-through this solution is.

“In many cases, VezoPay wearables are even more secure than traditional cards.”

One can tell design isn’t an afterthought here, it’s central. “A payment wearable must feel comfortable, look good, and work effortlessly, otherwise people won’t wear it.”

Each ring undergoes durability testing, water-resistance trials, and performance validation, all while evolving aesthetically to suit daily life, from workouts to boardrooms to evenings out.

Performance is non-negotiable. But style matters too.

VezoPay’s partnership with major banks like FNB has played a crucial role in its adoption. “Partnering with established banks accelerates trust. It integrates wearable payments into familiar ecosystems and reduces friction for customers.”

South Africa, they tell us, has been an ideal launchpad, with strong contactless adoption, fintech maturity, and consumers open to innovation. “These partnerships validate wearable payments as a mainstream solution, not a novelty.”

Like any transformative technology, VezoPay faced early challenges - education, behaviour change, and regulation among them.

“Once people try the ring, the value becomes immediately obvious.”

This duo’s vision is bold but grounded.

“Over the next 3–5 years, we see VezoPay becoming a global wearable payments platform.”

The roadmap includes expanding across African markets, launching new wearable designs, integrating access control, car keys, identity, and loyalty systems, all while keeping payments quietly in the background.

“Our long-term vision is simple - payments that fade into the background, allowing people to move through the world more freely.”

And that, perhaps, is the real game-changer, not technology that demands attention, but innovation that gives us our attention back.
