Collaborations and partnerships has been the pillar of strength to every initiative from ages ago. This time we speak to the duo that has turned their childhood friendship to a business partnership model – should we say goals? Yes, that’s goals. Duish Corner was founded by 2 long-time friends Bonke Monono and Nkosinathi Sikoti. We were both born same year in Mdantsane, East London. We are still based in Mdantsane. Bonke did his BSc Biochemistry and Microbiology in UKZN while Nkosinathi did his IT in WSU.

Duish Corner was officially launched 24 Sep 2020, the aim was to have a street clothing shop that is easily reachable to our target market and change the narrative of having to travel to the CBD to get good quality clothes. Our store is situated in Mdantsane CNR Billie Road and Qumza Highway. Currently Duish Corner owns 3 clothing brands namely: Andikuva Noba Uthini, Duish and Strong Character. The love for kasi development and fashion inspired us to join our clothing brands together under 1 company which is Duish Corner and take them to the next level.

What kind of challenges you faced when trying to get Duish off the ground? “Main challenge was the capital. And all this we had to do it during 1 of the most difficult times we have ever experienced in our lifetime with developments of Covid-19 and restriction. It was really not a good time to think about starting a business as we saw some business closing and could not cope. Imagine what was running through our minds if we see big companies closing and we are busy trying to open one “thina”. With all that happening we told ourselves that if we do not do it now it will never be done. We then started planning and implementing actions to achieve our dream.

Your highlight this far – and any other brands available in your store? “Our Highlight was the store launch. The support we received was overwhelming. We are still far from where we want to see Duish Corner”. Other kasi brands available in our store is Ushukela and Mdantsane Native”. And for people who are out of East London our online store is operating 24/7 for shopping".
