Originally from the beautiful and sunny Durban, then relocated to Gauteng about 3 years ago - Chanel Hamiel is the woman we had a chat with about his cooking journey. Her academics are actually far different from her passion for food. She has a diploma in Information Technology, a diploma in Systems Engineering and a certificate of Completion for HRM.
"I started cooking from a very young age. I was not the kid to play outside or watch cartoons, instead you would either find me in the kitchen helping my mom or watching cooking shows by some of the culinary giants like Gordon Ramsay. I loved being in the kitchen and exploring my creativity through ingredients. I was always the go to person for recipes and cooking tips in campus and even in my working life. One day a very good friend of mine gave me a push in the right direction and suggested that I start a food blog to help others in the kitchen with easy recipes and great cooking tips. I was hesitant at first but after a while I realised what a good idea it would be to share all the knowledge, I have on a platform that can reach South Africans everywhere".
Challenges you faced since inception as a food blogger? "One of the challenges I faced as a food blogger at first was how to simplify recipes. My mom was a single mother and growing up she worked long hours but still managed to put together a quick and easy meal. As much as I wanted to post in depth recipes that took hours, I knew that my followers wanted quick but delicious meals that did not take hours to prepare. It was at that point that I knew I had to find a way to turn dished that would otherwise take hours down to a reasonable amount of time. I am happy to say that this was a challenge that helped me grow as a food blogger and is what is leading my page".
Any highlights/achievements thus far? "I have worked on a campaign with Lamb and Mutton SA which is the official lamb and mutton consumer education project in SA for Womens month 2020. I also do have a few campaigns with some amazing brands launching this year. I can’t mention them for now but keep following my page to keep an eye out for them".
To wrap up our dialogue with Chanel she left one of her recipes for our readers to try at home.
