Vodacom TechStart officially launched in the Eastern Cape.

East London, Eastern Cape - Vodacom proudly unveiled TechStart, a digital skills development platform, at a landmark launch hosted at Buffalo City College. The event was graced by His Majesty King Vulikhaya Sigcawu of the Xhosa Kingdom, who expressed his support for empowering young people through access to digital education.

More than just a launch, this moment marked the beginning of a movement to bridge the digital divide in the Eastern Cape. To ensure the message reached every corner of the community, local radio stations, including Kumkani FM, Mdantsane FM, and Forte FM, amplified the campaign. On the day, Vodacom’s team worked hand-in-hand with 200 students, guiding them through registration, exploring courses, and achieving their first steps toward certification.

The launch follows weeks of groundwork and activations that demonstrated the potential of TechStart:

• At uLwazi High School in Mdantsane, over 300 learners registered with the support of Vodacom interns during a pilot activation.

• At King Hintsa TVET College in Butterworth, more than 100 students signed up, experiencing first-hand the value of the platform through live course navigation and recognition badges.

Looking ahead, Vodacom is committed to scaling TechStart across the province, supported by strategic partnerships with the Office of the Premier, the Department of Education, and TVET Colleges. The mission is clear: to empower thousands of young people with future-ready digital skills that open pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.

“This is only the beginning,” said a Vodacom spokesperson. “The Eastern Cape has set the tone for what’s possible when communities, leaders, and technology come together.”
