Eastern Cape, South Africa – Vodacom Eastern Cape has concluded a province-wide Mgidi campaign journey that saw the brand travel across the length and breadth of the Eastern Cape, helping families make one of life’s most important celebrations truly special.
As part of Vodacom’s Extra Your Summer campaign, three families were awarded R20 000 each to support their Mgidi celebrations — a culturally significant family event rooted in coming together, gratitude and shared joy.
In a tough economic climate, where many households are under financial pressure, Vodacom recognised the importance of easing the burden in a meaningful way.
“The economy is challenging and families are cash-strapped,” said Tshego Malinga, Executive Head: Consumer Business – Vodacom Eastern Cape. “It was a real joy for us to lend a helping hand and be part of moments that matter deeply to families. Mgidi is about togetherness, and this campaign allowed us to live that value in action.”
Stories Told by the Community, Decisions Made Together.
What made the Mgidi campaign particularly powerful was its community-driven approach. Families shared their stories live on truFM, explaining why their Mgidi celebration was important to them. Listeners across the Eastern Cape then voted for the stories that resonated most.

Vodacom, in partnership with truFM, simply acted on the will of the community — turning heartfelt stories into real support and unforgettable experiences.
Final Mgidi Prize Handover – Media Invitation.
The final Mgidi prize handover for 2025 took place on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, coinciding with the actual Mgidi day of the last winning family.
Vodacom Eastern Cape warmly invited members of the media to attend and be part of this celebration, to witness first-hand how shared stories, community voice and corporate partnership can create meaningful life experiences.
“We are honoured to be part of this family’s Mgidi day in a small but heartfelt way,” added Malinga. “It is moments like these that remind us of the role businesses can play when they choose to show the communities they serve a little extra summer love.”
Extra Your Summer. Extra Your Mgidi.
The Mgidi campaign forms part of Vodacom’s broader commitment to staying close to communities, celebrating culture, and enabling connection — not just through technology, but through presence, listening and action.
