Founder of King Vleis clothing wear is Tebatso Manyama, nicknamed Vleis because of his surname Manyama. Mr Manyama was born in Bolobedu in Limpopo and currently resides in Centurion. He did his lower grades in the community where he was born, at Mokgadi primary school and Laerskool Duiwelskloof. He then went to Highlands North Boys high school which he thinks is the school that shaped and contributed to the man he is today. After matric he received a soccer scholarship in America. He later studied in the University of Alabama (Montgomery) for 2 years, after which he moved to the University of North Carolina (Greensboro) for another period of 2 years. He now has Honours in International Business and Marketing.
“At first the idea was for this to be a side-hustle but it proved to have the potential to be a lot bigger than that. Next, we are planning on opening a chain of stores and creating job opportunities in the process. We currently have an active e-commerce store where all our merchandise is available to shop online”.
When we asked him about his highlights and big names that bought the products he replied by saying, “My highlights are not defined by big names or celebrities purchasing items from my brand. For me, It was at the very birth of King Vleis clothing, I remember having 80 items of various apparel that was sold out in 72 hours and that was my highlight”. Yes a number of people, big names or even celebrities have shown great interest in the KV brand. People like Lebogang Manyama, Thuso Phala, Kamogelo Mokotjo and a few other TV personalities and soccer stars have scooped items for themselves and recommended the brand to friends and family".
Lastly, how did the lockdown impact the business? “Lockdown has definitely had an impact on everyone’s lives and livelihoods. As such household economy is a factor in our line of business. Often people have had to be aware of their spending habits and choices. Households have had to prioritize their income towards necessities in the home than towards brand wear. We are looking forward to coming out of the pandemic strong and more than anything we are truly grateful for the support that our clients have shown us even during this difficult time".
