Not even the rain or loadshedding could put a damper on the magic that unfolded at the Boardwalk ICC in Gqeberha on the evening of July 26th, 2025. Mpompo Events truly outdid themselves with the 1st Annual Soulful Sounds of Winter, delivering a world-class experience that brought warmth, rhythm, and joy to the Friendly City.

Led by the ever-charismatic Mafa Bavuma, who held down the MC duties with charm and infectious energy, the night opened with none other than Lefa Mosea, whose signature saxophone melodies set the tone beautifully. His performance of his original song Mabele had the crowd in awe, mesmerised and moved, even those experiencing his live performance for the first time. Lefa and his team owned the stage with a confidence that can only come from seasoned performers who pour heart and soul into their craft. Every note spoke volumes.

The soulful train didn’t stop there. Hailing from Mthatha, the beloved gents 047 took to the stage and instantly connected with the audience through their vernacular-rich lyrics and relatable stories. Their collaboration with Lefa Mosea was easily one of the night’s highlights, a seamless blend of vocal harmony and instrumental brilliance that left us hoping to see more from them at the upcoming August event at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Adding a touch of inspiration, Michael Mayalo representing the entrepreneurial spirit behind Mpompo Events, shared insight into international opportunities opening through their organization. His encouragement for continued support of Eastern Cape talent was a reminder of the power local events have in building global dreams.

Then entered Nomfundo Moh, one of the nation's sweethearts. Her presence lit up the room, and her performance was as emotionally rich as ever. She had the audience dancing, swaying, and singing along to her Zulu love anthems, proving once again why she is one of South Africa’s most cherished artists.

And just when we thought the night had peaked, Ami Faku, Gqeberha’s own, stepped up and reminded us why she continues to soar. Her performance not only cemented the evening’s emotional crescendo but also served as a powerful invitation to her upcoming appearance at Jazz in the Lake. And in that room, anyone who didn’t have a ticket for Jazz In The Lake before, Ami made sure now they start budgeting for one.

I must say from start to finish, Mafa Bavuma kept the energy alive, guiding the audience smoothly through a night filled with soul and connection. And before I close, a massive salute to Mpompo Events for delivering a high-calibre show that didn’t just meet expectations, it exceeded them.

And allow me to borrow the words from the streets, Mpompo Events - you owe us nothing. You promised the people quality, and you delivered. And now, you've earned something precious, our trust and our anticipation for what’s next.
