Inside SkeenDip: Where science, soul and self-belief meet in Rivonia.

Six months can feel like a heartbeat in business time, or a lifetime, depending on how deliberately a venture is built. Walking into SkeenDip’s new premises in Rivonia, Sandton, it was hard to believe the spa has only been operating for half a year there. The space carries the quiet confidence of a business that looks five years of operations - secure, polished, immaculately clean and thoughtfully designed. Nothing feels rushed or experimental. Everything feels intentional.
I was welcomed by the team with warm hospitality, the kind that cannot be trained and soon we were seated with a light snack and sparkling water, the conversation flowing easily. Across from me sat Rachel Mkhondo, CEO and Founder of SkeenDip. Calm, prayerful, deeply reflective and yet bold. It was immediately clear that this is a woman who builds from conviction, not trend.
Rachel began her story far from Rivonia’s leafy streets. Born in Kgautswane and raised in Lydenburg, also known as Mashishing, she matriculated from Hoërskool Lydenburg before she went on to study Information Technology at Tshwane University of Technology’s eMalahleni Campus. By profession, she is a software developer, a detail that matters more than one might expect in a wellness business.
“I love problem solving,” she said simply. “I believe in making the most out of life, knowing we’re here for a limited time.”
Entrepreneurship, she explained, did not arrive as a career choice but as a calling. Raised in a household where selling seasonal fruit, vegetables, achar and second-hand clothing was normalised, business was woven into daily life. Her late grandmother, in particular, believed fiercely in entrepreneurship. What once felt humiliating, going door to door, selling from the back of a van, calling out to customers, later revealed itself as a masterclass in demand, resilience and community-based enterprise.
“As time went on, it became a lifestyle,” Rachel reflects. “We employed our young friends and neighbours to meet demand.”
SkeenDip’s origin story is deeply personal. Rachel speaks openly about her relationship with confidence, cleanliness and wellness and the frustration that sparked something bigger. Despite living a disciplined lifestyle, exercising, eating clean and staying hydrated, she struggled with persistent acne. Dermatologists, expensive products and endless routines offered only temporary relief.
That frustration led to research and enrolling in Somatology, leading to career change.
“I learned that some breakouts are your body communicating,” she explained. “Hormonal fluctuations, gut health, stress and cortisol, sugar levels, inflammation, toxic overload - the skin tells a story.”
What began as self-education soon became a philosophy. Rachel recognised that many solutions in the market treated symptoms, not systems. The same applied to weight-loss products and certain medications, which she believes often compromise long-term health. From that realisation, SkeenDip was born, not as a beauty spa, but as a wellness solution.

“I’ve always stood against bullying and body shaming,” she said. “Now I’ve become part of the solution.”
As Founder, Rachel is deeply involved in SkeenDip’s daily operations, from setting strategic direction to curating treatments and shaping client experience. Her leadership style is both visionary and hands-on, rooted in empathy rather than ego.
She empowers her teammate to grow, collaborate and innovate, creating a culture where professionalism and care coexist. It is evident in the way staff interact with clients - calm, informed, respectful and in the trust clients place in the brand.
SkeenDip’s services reflect this ethos clearly. Signature offerings such as Fatfreeze lipolysis, ozone therapy, skin rejuvenation, massage therapies and tattoo removal are non-invasive, science-backed and personalised. The focus is not transformation for validation, but restoration for confidence.
“Our mission is a healthier, glowing you,” Rachel explained. “Confidence comes when your body is supported, not punished.”
In a saturated beauty and wellness market, SkeenDip differentiates itself through integration. Over 1,200 clients and more than 3,500 treatments later, the results speak loudly. The spa prioritises safety, ethical practice and measurable outcomes, with no surgical downtime and no one-size-fits-all promises.
Innovation, Rachel noted, comes from listening. Client feedback, continuous education, team input and outcome tracking all inform how the business evolves. “You have to stay teachable,” she said. “The industry moves fast, but the client always tells you what matters.”
Despite its rapid success, Rachel speaks with humility about the road ahead. “We’ve come far,” she said, “but we still have a long way to go.”

SkeenDip is preparing to expand its offerings to include colon cleansing hydrotherapy, steam therapy and cryotherapy, alongside strategic collaborations with dieticians. The brand also plans to launch its own holistic wellness food, supplements and skincare range, completing a full ecosystem of care.
“Our goal is integrated wellness,” Rachel concludes. “When people leave here, they should feel supported - physically, mentally and emotionally.”
Leaving SkeenDip myself, I am certain, they are not just another spa. They’re the physical manifestation of a woman who turned personal struggle into purposeful enterprise, with faith, discipline and quiet courage leading the way.
