Multi-award-winning comedian, content creator, and corporate MC Vafa Naraghi is bringing his debut national stand-up tour Becoming South African to Gqeberha on Friday, 10 October 2025. The Little Theatre will host what promises to be an unforgettable night of razor-sharp wit, heartfelt storytelling, and the kind of clean, clever comedy that has made Vafa one of the most dynamic voices in South African entertainment.

Born in Mahikeng to Iranian parents and fluent in six languages, including Setswana, isiXhosa, Afrikaans, and Farsi, Vafa embodies the layered identity of post-apartheid South Africa. His comedy blends sharp social commentary with character-driven storytelling, a style that has already earned him two SA Comics Choice Awards and seven nominations across 2023 and 2024. From intimate clubs to massive stages like Blacks Only with David Kau and the Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi, Vafa has performed to sold-out audiences across Africa, Europe, and the USA.

“This isn’t just a comedy show, it’s a love letter to South Africa,” Vafa says of Becoming South African. “And Gqeberha will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where I lived for several years, experiencing the variety of comedy in the city and surroundings just before I made my pivot from civil engineering to comedy.”

That pivot is a story. With a master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Vafa traded blueprints for punchlines more than eight years ago. Since then, he has founded Otherwise Comedy Nights in Cape Town, one of the city’s most popular recurring stand-up platforms, known for hosting global stars like Tiffany Haddish and built a loyal online following of over 570,000 fans who connect with his viral sketches on everyday South African life.

His visit to Gqeberha is part of an 11-city national tour that culminates in a grand finale at Johannesburg’s Lyric Theatre. Cape Town audiences will also get to experience the show in the city that forged one of South Africa’s most distinctive comedy voices.
