With 18 years in the Surveillance Department, Sisanda Wendy Mtati has built a career around observation, analysis, accountability and attention to detail. As a Compliance Auditor at Boardwalk Hotel and Casino, her role goes far beyond simply monitoring operations, it requires her to identify patterns, investigate anomalies and ensure that company practices and staff behaviour remain aligned with legal requirements and organisational standards.
Working in Surveillance has also shaped the way Sisanda sees the world. “It shifts a person from being a passive observer to an active watcher,” she explains. Her work has strengthened her perspective on trust, privacy, safety and the importance of understanding human behaviour.
Sisanda believes women bring valuable and distinct perspectives to surveillance and security, particularly through their lived experiences and understanding of safety, privacy and power dynamics. She also challenges the misconception that women lack the technical aptitude or spatial awareness required for the industry.
“Gender has no bearing on core competencies such as attention to detail, pattern recognition and target tracking.”
One of her proudest career moments came in 2024, when the Compliance team was recognised as Team of the Year by their HOD. For Sisanda, the recognition reflects not only teamwork but also the resilience and dedication that have shaped her career.

Over the years, her role has strengthened her analytical abilities, sharpened her attention to detail and taught her how to communicate complex rules and regulations clearly. Most importantly, it has helped her recognise her own resilience.
Her advice to women considering a career in a traditionally male-dominated environment is simple: see the opportunities, build your skills, find strong mentors and know your value. She encourages women to establish a solid professional foundation, surround themselves with people who can guide and support them, and remain confident in what they bring to the workplace.
And when asked what being a woman means to her, Sisanda's answer is beautifully personal:
“I’m a woman who is strong and has learnt to cherish her womanhood by embracing both her inner strength and capacity for softness, finding joy in everyday sensory details and connecting deeply with a community of other women.”
