Born in Uitenhage and raised by her grandmother, Lindelwa Magwebu’s early years were filled with colour, movement, and the kind of joy only a big family can bring. One sister, four brothers, a tight-knit community, and a childhood enriched by sports, laughter, and curiosity shaped who she was becoming. But alongside this vibrant childhood came a life-changing discovery.
At nine years old, Lindelwa was diagnosed with glaucoma, a condition that steadily stole her sight and eventually led to total blindness at the age of 12. Suddenly, the dreams of a young girl, dreams of who she would be, the life she imagined, the future she sketched in her mind, felt like they were slipping away. She was the only visually impaired child in her family and neighbourhood. No one around her understood the fear, confusion, or emotional weight of her diagnosis.
