The school shoes delivering project by YMCA NMB is commencing today in the Metro. More than 2000 pairs of shoes will be delivered this month to more than 20 schools around the Nelson Mandela Bay. This is one huge task to be delivered by the YMCA team, under the leadership of Lerato Lebopo who is the organisation manager in the city. YMCA is a national, continental and international organisation that aims to provide support to all youth of today as the shapers of tomorrow through various programs that includes leadership, entrepreneurship and other life skils. Their facilities are located in the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth, very close to Helenvale- a neighbourhood with a lot of youth from broken family structures, drugs influenced environment and an increasing teenagers number who are dropping out of school from as early as the primary level. Through different programs like YOUTH JUSTICE, YMCA is fighting these society challenges and are impacting youth in that vicinity already.

In the beginning of 2021 YMCA hired a group of vibrant young people to facilitate their youthful programs, and the experience brought by these new facilitators has shown over the past few weeks through various campaigns and partnerships they have created with other organisations in the city to empower the youth in their space. One of the amazing projects is the shoe campaign commencing today, where the organisation has partnered with their international partner Metro Atlanta YMCA, Tavcor Volkswagen and Toughees.

On the 15th of March 2021 Martin Taverner (General manager: New VW Sales) from Tavcor Motor Group handed a brand new vehicle to YMCA to be able to transport the shoes safely around the city. On the same day they were joined by a TV star, presenter and entrepreneur Moshe Ndiki, as an ambassador to this campaign. Moshe joins the team with a full perspective and experience of driving a school shoes campaign as he had done one of his own before, where he delivered 290 pairs of shoes around Idutywa and Umtata to the underprivileged students. When asked about why he started a shoe drive Moshe mentioned how he always believes in assisting students who lack finances to either pay for their studies or have school gear.
YMCA is planning to continue with the school shoes campaign throughout the year and accepts donations from any businesses, corporates and individuals.
